WELCOME

Welcome to the Central Virginia Show Jumping Association (CVSJA) website.  We are an organization committed to promoting the sport of show jumping in Central Virginia.  As an associate member of the Virginia Horse Shows Association we are proud to produce an annual show jumping series that helps further the popularity of show jumping in Virginia.

Since 2002, our show venue has been the ever-popular Deep Run Show Grounds.  With the covered grand stand seating and excellent ring footing, Deep Run is popular with spectators and exhibitors alike.

During our seventeen-year history we have collected a loyal following that includes participants from as far as Roanoke, VA.  We also have folks from Lexington, Charlottesville, VA Beach, and of course the greater Richmond area.  Each season individuals new to the excitement of show jumping join our ranks.  Folks from all levels--novice to amateur to the professionals--can come and really get a feel for show jumping in a friendly, supportive setting. It's a great show for those wanting to try their skills in the jumpers and for those experienced folks wanting to test their skills for the A shows.

We look forward to having you join us!!

Current News
  • Year End Awards Dinner--don't forget to sign up for the dinner. To be held on Dec 7, 2009 at 6:00PM. Please RSVP (click here for form) as soon as possible.
  • Miniprix--Everyone did a great job at the Mini-prix show this past Sunday!! I've posted the division results and will add the class results once they're sent to me.
  • Perpetual Trophy Winners from 2008--please contact us (phone or email) about how to get the trophy back so that we can have it ready for this year's winners!
  • We want to know!!! What are your thoughts about a Master's Division which would consist of 35 to 40 year old plus competitors??? A suggestion was made to establish this division so we thought we'd touch base with our competitors to see if there is enough interest. Let us know at tomorrow's show or feel free to email us your thoughts on this.
  • Also, we're trying out a new, free communication service (www.rainedout.com) on the chance that a show needs to be cancelled due to weather, etc. Go to this flyer for instructions. Cut and paste this http://my.rainedout.com/96085251349fe38843e2c2/ address into your browser to get taken directly to our CVSJA rained out page. Once there just click on "Sign Up Now" to get started. This service will allow you to sign up for text and/or email updates on show statuses. This service was started for "typical" sports games, such as soccer, so don't worry by all the team lingo, we can still use it too!!
  • Also, if you want to see your horse and you in action, go to http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/store.aspx?p=43973 for Sarah Black's photos!
  • NOTE: if you're riding a horse on show day that you know is going to be ridden by more than one person that day, please make sure we know which rider is riding the horse for the correct class. Thanks!
  • There are some changes to the rules & regulations for this year as well as a slight increase in the administrative fee, which will be $30 now. These changes can be seen in our prize list, which can be viewed here.
  • As always, we want to thank the volunteers and everyone else that helps make the show season such a huge success! That being said, please keep in mind, we will still need additional volunteers for 2009 so I'll be leaving the following on the site for some time to come:

Volunteers Needed! As many of you are aware the CVSJA has grown by leaps and bounds over the past few years.  We are now in our fifteenth year and the show we were a decade ago is very different from the show we’ve become.  One feature that has remained the same, though, is our commitment to hosting quality, fun, competitive shows with an emphasis on providing competitive opportunities in a schooling-show setting that allows for new and experienced exhibiters to thrive.

What many of you may not realize, though, is that the show association and the majority of the activities related to each show day are provided by volunteers.  Volunteers show up the Saturday before show days to help set the courses, which is no small commitment of effort and time, especially since there are rarely enough volunteers that show up and thus the course settings are usually left to the same individuals each time.  These same volunteers also usually work the day of each show to ensure that the show day runs smoothly and is an enjoyable competitive experience for exhibiters. Some of our volunteers actually work as gatekeepers or in the secretarial stand and show on the same day or work the day of the show and then have hours of show statistics and financial reconciliation to deal with the following day.

The show association is extremely excited to see the increased growth and popularity of our shows, but with these ever-increasing numbers and with the addition of a second ring, we need additional volunteers in order to continue to provide quality schooling show experiences.  Here is a list of areas in which volunteer help would be much appreciated:

    • Secretarial stand on show day—involves helping exhibiters register for classes and accepting payments for the show day as well as reconciling exhibiter registration with judges’ cards.
    • Announcing—involves announcing exhibiters’ numbers, names, horse names and other information needed to keep exhibiters informed throughout the day.
    • Gatekeeper—involves maintaining the in-gate and tracking exhibiters’ order-of-go as well as trying to keep the rings from having too much “down time.”
    • Concession related volunteers:
      • Prepare food, such as brownies, cookies, salads, ahead of the show day to be sold in the concession stand.
      • Work in the concession stand helping to collect money and/or grill food.
      • Help organize sign-ups for volunteers willing to bring food and/or work in the concession stand.
    • Helpers-at-large—would involve checking in with the secretarial and/or other CVSJA staff to be an extra set of hands, as needed, on the day of the show.  For example, if a regular volunteer is sick or cannot help out that day, a helper-at-large could step in and assist as needed; or if one of the gatekeepers is also showing that day, the helper-at-large could step in and help work the gate while the “regular” gatekeeper went to prepare themselves and their horse for their classes.

There are likely other areas in which any help would be appreciated.  If you are interested in learning more about how you can volunteer and help us continue to provide such excellent shows, please see one of the current volunteers in the secretarial stand or fill out a “CVSJA Volunteerism: Interested in Learning More” form found by clicking here.  You can email or fax this form to the CVSJA or bring it with you to the next show.  Filling out this form will not commit you to helping.  Remember, adult and junior volunteers are welcome!
