What to expect

Sulu will focus on building skills to improve course work. She will help riders develop the ability to efficiently navigate a clean course and improve their jump-off times by focusing on geometry not speed. Sulu’s individual approach will help riders solve challenges they face on course.

About Sulu

Sulu competed on the Prix de States team at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg, PA in 1988 and 1989. At age 18 she took a position as head riding instructor at Club Hippico del Suresete in Merida, Mexico. Upon returning from Mexico, she joined her mother, Gail Thompson, at The Galloping Field.

Sulu became a professional rider in 1994. She achieved a significant milestone in 2001 when she won her first Grand Prix. Since then, she won an additional 10 Grand Prix events and placed in others. In 2014, Sulu achieved another career highlight placing 8th in the prestigious Zoetis $1,000,000 Grand Prix.

As a coach, Sulu successfully guided riders to numerous championship titles including the VHSA Medal Finals Championship and the Zone 3 Equitation Championship. Four of her students won the coveted Bryan Trophy. She is proud to have several students now competing on NCEA riding teams. Her motto is “Don’t just ride, ride well.”
